Neck Pain

Too Much Time In Front Of The Computer

Nowadays most of us spend many hours in front of the computer every day, usually hunched over, with the monitor either too high or too low in relation to our line of sight, keeping our neck locked in an unnatural position. Doing this day after day puts an abnormal amount of strain on the neck muscles as well as on the discs and ligaments that stabilize the neck bones. Eventually the spinal nerves in the neck become compressed and irritated either by the neck bones themselves or by a damaged disc. This situation can produce different symptoms including neck and upper back pain, headaches, arm and hand pain, dizziness, and eye pain.

During Sleep At Night

Another common, but not well known cause of neck pain occurs when we sleep at night. Many people sleep on their stomach and as a result twist their neck to one side. The neck remains in this position for many hours and puts an abnormal “twist” on it. I had patients that told me when they wake up in the morning, sometimes they had terrible neck pain. Sometimes their arms and hands felt numb and painful as well from spinal nerve compression. Although our neck is the most flexible part of our spine it should not remain in one position for long periods of time.

Car Accidents

A common cause of neck pain occurs from whiplash injury during a car accident. This is when the impact, usually from behind, causes the neck to move forward and backward very fast. This can cause immediate damage by tearing ligaments that connect the bones of the neck together, damage the discs between the neck bones and overstretch the muscles in the neck and upper back. Sometimes the pain from a whiplash injury may not show up right away and may take several days for you to feel it. This is why it is very important to get yourself checked immediately if you have been involved in a car accident, even if you don’t feel pain right away. If you don’t get checked, you could prolong the time of your recovery unnecessarily.

My spine feels stronger.

I came to see Dr. Hans because of back pain and a herniated disc in my neck. I had tried physical therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. It all helped, but I still needed a back support pillow to sit upright. After two months of treatment with Dr. Hans I suddenly noticed that I did not need the back support any longer. I could sit straight and upright without getting tired in my back. My spine feels stronger and much more flexible.

I am sure glad that I trusted the subtlety of Network Spinal Analysis. It made a huge difference in my physical and mental well-being.

Pinched vertebrae and stiff neck

“I have 3 pinched vertebrae in the cervical spine. They have been pinched for almost 5 years now and with my daily practice of Yoga, most of the symptoms were alleviated. However, I have been frustrated with a consistent immobility in my right shoulder and tiredness in the neck. Also, I’ve been napping every afternoon for almost 10 years. Really I have suffered from exhaustion and low energy.

After just one adjustment by Dr. Hans, my energy level shot up (no need for a nap) and the stiffness in shoulder and neck was lifted. I feel really, possibly, better than I’ve ever felt. My back, after only 2 sessions, feels light and lovely. Thank you.

P.S. The best news, though, is that my husband actually looks forward to his treatment and goes without any prodding on my part.”

This Was The Last Straw

For six months before I came to Dr. Hans, I was having neck, shoulder and jaw pain. I developed a constant burning sensation that made me uncomfortable all the time. This was the last straw that brought me to Dr. Hans. I had tried other things that didn’t work. Now after four weeks I can actually move my head around without pain or stiffness, and my jaw is not hurting at all. I’m just feeling really good. It’s easier to be very patient and relaxed at work with my students.
