Back Pain & Herniated Disks

Back pain strikes 80 % of the population and is one of the most common reasons why people miss work. Besides the financial loss involved, this situation also leads to significant mental and emotional stress. Back pain usually develops as a result of sitting many hours in front of the computer in a bad posture, car accidents, driving for long distances, sports injuries, and lack of exercise. Pregnancy and emotional stress can also result in back pain.

Quite often back pain is a symptom of damage to the cartilage (the discs) between the spinal bones that give stability to the spine, act as shock absorbers, and protect the nerves. If discs are damaged in the lower back, common symptoms are burning pain, tingling, or numbness in the legs and feet. If the damaged discs are located in the neck, the shoulders, arms and hands are affected. Many people take pain killers daily which often have undesirable side effects, without really addressing the root of the problem.

Back pain gets worse due to dehydration

Your spinal discs are mostly water and will dry out and break if you do not drink enough water. Early signs of disc damage in an MRI show up as a loss of water in the disc.  To determine how many liters you need per day, divide your weight (in kilograms) by 30 (ex. somebody weighing 70 kg is going to need 2.3 liters per day). You’ll know your body is well-hydrated if the color and odor of your urine is neutral.

I was skeptical due to the gentle nature of the treatments

I was in an auto accident (rear ended) and was in extreme discomfort in my upper back. I wasn’t able to work for about 1 week due to the pains. It was uncomfortable and I felt fatigued. After 3 weeks of treatment, all my upper back pain was gone. After one week I definitely started to see the changes. At first I was skeptical due to the gentle nature of the treatments. I thought it would be a rough approach. I was pleasantly surprised! Thank you.

No Surgery And Back To Work

I injured my neck and lower back, with four disc herniations. A week later I came to Dr. Hans. The other doctors were saying that I would need surgery and would not be able to resume my job. I am a flight attendant.  Coming here helped get rid of the pain without drugs. A year later, no surgery and back to work. I also learned how to help myself with nutrition and to listen to my body better. My spine is clearer than it’s ever been. Maintenance has contributed significantly to my healing. I wish I would have known about Dr. Hans with my previous neck injury that required surgery. Dr. Hans helped me function normally again. I was able to get off all the pain medications they put me on.

Didn’t like it at first

“When I first came to Dr. Hans with my mom and sister I didn’t like it. It looked weird by just watching, but my mom said you should try everything. So I tried it and when we got back to the car I was jumping up and down saying I love it — love it. So after that I felt great! So now I go whenever my mom goes. I feel better and better every time.”
